How to Look Good in Photos – Tips and Tricks

Many people feel like they look better in person than in photos. It is a common problem for many people since they feel like their photos are not good representation of their true aesthetics. If you are feeling the same way, you are not alone. I know a lot of people who have the same problem. Looking unflattering in photos is a common problem but is one that can be solved quite easily.

I know a lot of beautiful people who look awful in pictures. You probably have friends that share the same dilemma. Maybe it’s the angle they’re taking the photos or the pose they do but more often than not, it’s a combination of both of these things.

To look charming in photos, you need to learn the art of posing and projection. To be able to take flattering photos of yourself, the knowledge of certain angles as well as your flattering features is essential. You need to project your flattering features by using ‘beauty’ angles.

Find the angle that your features are most prominent by taking several pictures at different angles and comparing them. Additionally, if you have certain features that you want hidden in the photos, you can also use this ‘beauty’ angle to find the angles that hides or softens these features.

The key is to keep practicing posing and picture taking until you are comfortable in front of the camera. Once you know the angle that make you look your best, position yourself into it when your photo is being taken.

Of course, you can’t always use the same angle when taking pictures. There are times where you have no control of the angle of the camera. Don’t worry though, because you can fix this situation by trying another technique.

If your photo is being taken by someone else, the camera angle they’re using is just straight up eye-level. To look good in this angle, you need to be yourself. Be comfortable and don’t stiffen up when your picture is being taken. You need to maintain your composure and let yourself be comfortable.

It also helps that you practice your smile. Practice your smile in front of a mirror. Try to make your smile as genuine-looking as possible. You can do this by slightly squinting your eyes when you smile. Try different smiles to get an idea of which ones best frame your face.

Also, try to take a few step backs from your mirror and practice your smile when you are about 2 – 3 meters away from the mirror. The reason you need to do this is to see if your smile looks good when you are at the most common distance where photographers take their photos. Focal length has a serious effect on the aesthetics of your face. To make sure you’re covered on all angles and distance, practice your smile near and far the mirror.

The lighting is also important. To have a flattering photo, you need to make sure that the lighting is pointed to your face at eye-level. A light directed to your face coming from below or above will form shadows under your nose and eyebrows which is not a cool look. Understanding the effects of shadows on your face is also essential to make your photos more flattering.
